A little history
This website is the result of a community initiative created by the Downtown Eastside residents in 2000 to improve communications, increase access to information in the neighbourhood and to share the community’s news and stories.
It was originally a cooperative project of several local agencies.
F.T.E. (Fast Track to Employment)
Tradeworks Training Society (through Pathways Information Centre)
DTES CAP (Computer Access Sites)
E.M.B.E.R.S. (Eastside Movement for Business & Economic Renewal Society)
In a joint project between Pathways Information Centre and the DTES CAP Network the website was re-launched in 2007 with updated software, new format and new content. The changes allowed the community to take greater management responsibility
The Goal
Working together we can create a health community. The dtes.CA is one small contribution. The providing of local content through dtes.CA is complemented by the placement of computer access sites throughout the community. This gives low-income residents access to the Internet and creates opportunities for everyone to “get digital”.
An Invitation
Pathways only hosts the site. The content has to come from the neighbourhood – the people, the businesses, and the agencies that live and work here. Write for the community news. Post your events. Keep your agency information up to date. Make it great.
