Program Description:

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver runs the Third Party Administration (TPA) as part of our community based programs, as well as three programs at Vancouver’s Downtown Community Court.

TPA
The TPA administers funds to clients, helping them receive statutory entitlements and address their individual circumstances. Clients are those banned from receiving services from particular government offices due to their behaviours or because of their need for higher levels of support and case management.

Women’s Support Group
This program is a mutually supportive self-help group for women who have used shoplifting and fraudulent activity as a coping mechanism to deal with emotionally driven theft behaviour. The self-help philosophy utilized in the group works with women in a solution focused helping way that is non-judgemental, and seeks to optimize the inherent strengths, the capacity for positive change and potential of all participants. The group often serves as an effective component of court-ordered alternative measures and court-authorized diversion, but is also open to members of the community.

This group is run every Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 at the Community Court located at 211 Gore Ave, Vancouver. Clients will need to be aware that they will be searched before entry as per the court policy for anyone attending the building.

Crime and Consequences
This seminar is designed for those charged with a criminal offence and provides information and education about the criminal justice system. Each seminar will consist of a guest speaker who shares about their experience, and a facilitator that will answer questions, connect people to community services, and address any concerns individuals may have. The group often serves as an effective component of court-ordered alternative measures and court-authorized diversion, and is also open to members of the community.

This seminar is run on the last Wednesday of every month from 12:00-1:30 at the Community Court located at 211 Gore, Vancouver. Clients will need to be aware that they will be searched before entry as per the court policy for anyone attending the building.

Volunteer Court Workers

Through EFry's' court program, society volunteers help individuals navigate through the courthouse, transfer court documents and escort accused to meet with community court staff.
