YWCA FOCUS AT WORK Information Sessions

YWCA FOCUS At Work is a job search service for women who are re-entering the workforce and are job-ready.

 

We have weekly information sessions on Mondays @ 2:45pm. Please call and register for these sessions.

 

Our program includes 3 weeks of full time workshops, which covers topics such as:

 

  • Assessments - MBTI, Personality Dimensions, Holland SDS, Values, Multiple Intelligences
  • Employability Skills - Self-esteem, goal setting, stress management, and communication
  • Job Search Skills - Resume writing, interview practice (including videotaped interview with analysis), and hidden job market/networking approach

 Upon completion of the workshops, you continue your job search activities on site from the Job Search Centre until employment is secured.

 

In addition to our employment services above, we also offer financial assistance with:

  • Transportation
  • Dependent Care Top  Up

 

Other added benefits to our clients upon joining the program:

Adult Employment Program - Workshop Series

The Gordon Neighbourhood House Adult Employment Program has been in operation since 1997. The Adult Program would be a benefit to
anyone who would like support and encouragement in their job search as well as up to date resources, computer lab access and clerical services, group
and individualized counselling support. Participants must be unemployed or under-employed and legally entitled to work in Canada.

This Service Canada funded program is now offering a FREE employment assistance program for individuals looking for a more flexible and
convenient employment program with ½ day workshops to fit their schedule. You have the choice of taking one or more workshops.

Our workshops run from 9:00am until noon and details are as follows:

Mondays: Resumes - Identification & defining skills/ attributes, measurement outcomes, resume dos & donts, exploring formats, development of resume and references.

Tuesdays: Cover letters - format overview, cover letter dos & donts, how to target a position, and development of a cover letter.

Wednesdays: Labour Market Information and The Hidden Job Market - Overview of common misconceptions, LMR resources available, accessing the Hidden Job Market, Informational Interviewing, identifying networking leads, cold call script development & practice.

Thursdays: Interview Strategies - Overview of interview strategies and questions, development of answers and practice exercise.

Alternating Fridays: Job Search on the Internet and Basic Computer Skills - Overview of Internet terms and Navigating functions, practice surfing the job sites, Email Basics & account set-up. Overview and identification of the basic functions of MS Word with cover letter document exercise. Strategies for the Older Worker-Overview of trends and issues facing 45+ workers.

One-on-one personalized coaching is available to participants Mondays through Thursdays from 1pm to 4:30pm, assisting with; Identifying their job range, goal setting, employment strategies/ skills/ barriers to employment/ coping techniques, including help with development of resumes and cover letters. Assistance will also be given to those learning how to operate the computer for their job search using the Internet & word processing with MS Word. Taped practice interviews and critiquing is available to those who are interested.

Clients will attend an appointment for an intake session before attending a workshop. They must also have an Action Plan from a Case Manager through an Employment Resource Centre (Please call us for a location nearest to you).

Youth Search Community Assistance Program

Gordon House Youth S.E.A.R.Ch strives to empower youth facing employment challenges by offering innovative and supportive programs that initiate positive change and personal success.

You can earn $8 per hour for a maximum of 30 hours a week, and receive friendly one-to-one counseling and credible work experience placements when you join the Skills Link program!

Youth S.E.A.R.Ch Skills Link offers youth ages 15-30 a rich, four-month employability training program offering the following benefits and services:

  • $8 per hour up to a maximum of 30 hours a week
  • Voice mail messaging service
  • Clothing vouchers to the Attic
  • Internet access
  • Advocacy and one-to-one support
  • Referral service and assessments
